Can't the government just legislate to say income generated in the UK will fall under UK tax law, no exceptions? isn't that what they do with with individuals who legally come to the UK to work from other countries?
Doesn't work. After allowable costs there is little income left.
Of course the allowable costs include huge royalty payments on the use of the Starbucks name, which strangely enough are not paid to Starbucks in the USA but to Starbucks Coffee EMEA BV in the Netherlands. "It's unclear where the money paid to Starbucks Coffee EMEA BV ends up" (Reuters) but some of it is paid to another Starbucks unit in Switzerland.
