Yeah it's certainly no Ferrari hardware wise epecially when compared to other tablets, but then it is designed with a different audience in mind and to me I think that sells it more. It copes very well with anything a child might use it for but I doubt I could play shadowgun on it. The battery life is about average for tablets of similar spec I would say 6-8 hours would be accurate.

A good thing is you can switch it between Kurio mode and Android which is a benefit, but then for kids there aren't many alternatives unfortunately. But let's face given how fast technology moves my Nexus 7 will probably be redundant by next year so either the wife or daughter will have it and I'll have the latest tablet till a new comes out.

Nothing these days is futureproof is what I bear in mind when I buy anything these days.

It does support flash websites and also has HDMI out and expandable storage up to 32gb using microSD, all her favourite movies and music are on the microSD and there's no problem playing them.

Oops forgot to add if you can get it from a bricks and mortar store, as I know there have been some problems with early adopters that I've heard of.

Some freezing and charging problems mainly, not had a problem with the one I bought but I know how it is with kids so I opened it up and used it for it a bit and checked it charged properly before presenting it to her on her birthday.

I got one of these - mainly for me as an entry into the tablet world as it was cheap and I really need an e-reader which could play games

                  9.7 inch KYROS

My kids use (steal) it regularly (they are 6 and 9) it has been dropped, eaten, they use it with sticky fingers etc etc and it has worked fine - only problem is that it is not support by the andriod store (google play now adays) so you have to get apps from 1 mobile or get jar (I am sure there are others) but for kids it is fine i reckon.

The Fuhu Nabi2 looks like the one to get, just need to find a retailer willing to ship from the US without bumping the cost up too much.

Both the eldest (9/5) use the iPad and love it. Admittedly mostly for games, some of which are educational. Eldest also uses it for homework on the net, as her school also delivers a lot of homework via online applications. Can't fault it really.
