Because if there is a class of people that is not getting employed on a regular basis for whatever reason, society breaks down.
Something I agree with you on for a change, and most succinctly put.

Why does that matter though if different people are getting employed elsewhere in the economy keeping the employment rate similar? If you have obsolete skills why do you deserve a job in place of a person with competitive skills?

Furthermore many of these people moved onto sickness benefit (as a defnite policy to massage the statistics by both Tory and Labour governments) and therefore don't get counted in the official unemployment stats.
        Hard Brexit now!

The rate has not been similar. There was a step change in the 80s if you consider all benefits: Unemployment, Disability, Income support etc.

You don't but some countries have very good policies on training to keep their thickos busy. Germany for example. Yet another example where government intervention leads to a more stable society.

You haven't produced any figures for that period.

Whilst i don't doubt that the gov massages figures, unless you can actually produce some alternative figures then you can't draw any conclusions.

Economics Essays: Unemployment in the UK

Unemployment first reached 3 million (highest since depression) in the 80s.
It's about that now. There was an artifical boom under Labour. And they fiddled the books as explained above.
But I reckon 3 million roughly, its been since the 80s.

"You reckon" doesn't really qualify as figures. There's nothing in this link that conflicts with the figures i mentioned earlier.
