Why does that matter though if different people are getting employed elsewhere in the economy keeping the employment rate similar? If you have obsolete skills why do you deserve a job in place of a person with competitive skills?Originally posted by sasguru View PostI'm not sure what your point is, as usual. Your argument is that people made unemployed eventually get redeployed, mine is that, as many communities in the North show, they don't.Comment

Furthermore many of these people moved onto sickness benefit (as a defnite policy to massage the statistics by both Tory and Labour governments) and therefore don't get counted in the official unemployment stats.Originally posted by sasguru View PostI'm not sure what your point is, as usual. The rate has not been similar. There was a step change in the 80s if you consider all benefits: Unemployment, Disability, Income support etc.Originally posted by Robinho View PostWhy does that matter though if different people are getting employed elsewhere in the economy keeping the employment rate similar? ?
You don't but some countries have very good policies on training to keep their thickos busy. Germany for example. Yet another example where government intervention leads to a more stable society.Originally posted by Robinho View PostIf you have obsolete skills why do you deserve a job in place of a person with competitive skills?Hard Brexit now!

You haven't produced any figures for that period.Originally posted by sasguru View PostThe rate has not been similar. There was a step change in the 80s if you consider all benefits: Unemployment, Disability, Income support etc.
Whilst i don't doubt that the gov massages figures, unless you can actually produce some alternative figures then you can't draw any conclusions.Comment

Unemployment first reached 3 million (highest since depression) in the 80s.
It's about that now. There was an artifical boom under Labour. And they fiddled the books as explained above.
But I reckon 3 million roughly, its been since the 80s.Hard Brexit now!

"You reckon" doesn't really qualify as figures. There's nothing in this link that conflicts with the figures i mentioned earlier.Originally posted by sasguru View PostBut I reckon 3 million roughly, its been since the 80s.Comment
