I reckon they would be more interested. Imagine just being part of a European free trade zone. All the benefits of the EU and none of the problems. Sounds great.

Interestingly in the light of the independence debate, Scotland receives no net subsidy. Using the Aberdeen University split of the oil and gas revenues
(which gives Scotland 83%) the oil and gas revenues exactly cancel out the fiscal transfers from the non oil sector

The Scots aren't keen on independence. Opinion polls for decades have show support is around 30% and it continues to show that even after a solid year of shameless SNP propaganda.

The SNP are forcing a referendum on something they know nobody wants.

I'd imagine that by that time, the infrastructure will be in place to offset the need for huge top-ups from Oil and Gas Revenue.
Fishing, Tourism, Banking, Alternative Energy Provision, and a whole raft of other possibilities will still exist.
We could even do a nice line in exporting dodgy politicos to Westminster.
With a highly trained and well-qualified workforce steadily streaming out of the subsidised Universities, the sky will be the limit.
Not saying I agree with Scotland becoming independent, but if we are going to discuss the issue it is best to do it without the xenophobic blinkers on that some seem to reach for whenever the topic arises.
Ask yourself this, if there were no financial benefits to the the rest of the UK of hanging onto Scotland, do you seriously think they would not have been cut loose a long time ago?

Yes you see your article claimed 82.5% would give a 4 billion surplus. Mine said it wouldn't. This is what is typically known as a "difference".

So what you are saying is that with the highest oil revenue figures in the last 20 years, Scotland has finally managed to give back to the UK, and we should use this one single year of a finite resource to base a decision which will last a lifetime.
