Are you applying for The Apprentice or somthing?Originally posted by aussielong View PostI have high standards and I work hard, I don't f&@k about. If we are working together there will be a mental battle until I have crushed you with my superior ideas.

I am as good as I say I am at what I do. I am yet to not be offered an extension and regularly get my point across in conversations and meetings.Originally posted by aussielong View PostI'm not a bully but I am certainly aggressive. I have high standards and I work hard, I don't f&@k about. If we are working together there will be a mental battle until I have crushed you with my superior ideas. Then I'll start being nice to you to get you working for me. You will have to be a strong character or I'll be all over you and you will be stressed to f$&k.
My current (weak minded) PM asked me to fix up a report today. I already crushed this person through public arguments in agile standups where this person cannot produce ideas. Im delivering ... bosh bosh bosh - damn, where do these ideas come from??- I live this sh1t, forget it. This PM always comes to my desk and when asking me something goes bright red around the neck. I did the hard analysis work and made sure anyone nearby in power knew i had sussed it. I then explained to the PM one-to-one how they could take my input and fix the report themselves. Too scared to pull me up on it. I should have really taken ownership of the issue to closure.
Young dev sitting next to me is taking so much of a subtle mental beating from me he's developed munchhousen syndrome. Im good cop bad cop within the same conversation. He now treats me like his boss. I'm not his manager. But I've pulled him up on his smart arse work and shown him the real stuff. He's not stupid, he knows who's the real boss.
And I've just been offered a 6 month extension.
I have never needed to bully or belittle anyone in order to do it.
Bullying and belittling might allow you to get your job done in a team but it is not the only way and, imho, it is far from the best one.Comment

I don't waste my time and call people nasty names on here. Why? It doesn't lift my ego.Originally posted by TheBigD View PostAre you applying for The Apprentice or somthing?

I agree with all of that statement, but I actually quite like mentoring people & helping them gain from my experience & if I make a few friends on the way it's a bonus.Originally posted by aussielong View PostI have a track record of delivering hard stuff. Most people in IT, when it comes down to it, cannot actually deliver. I'm not there to make friends, I'm there to solve problems. Everyone benefits. Some influence is required to clear the obstacles. I am always trying to raise the probability of delivering on time. I'll quickly suss out if you can deliver. If you can't, you are an obstacle.Originally posted by MyUserName View PostI am as good as I say I am at what I do. I am a great believer in the quoteOriginally posted by aussielong View PostSome influence is required to clear the obstacles. I am always trying to raise the probability of delivering on time. I'll quickly suss out if you can deliver. If you can't, you are an obstacle.
"Always be nice to people on the way up; because you'll meet the same people on the way down"
I'm also a great believer in the other quote
'What goes around, comes around'
Both worth remembering. What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment
