I need a new phone and was contemplating the 5, but after reading that, may wait until some user reviews.

Good to see you're not easily swayed

No. But then I am not sure I'd want it. IMO the whole RFID/contact-less route is asking for trouble. Some university class had managed to own the Oyster Card system before it was even off the ground. I just don't trust the programming skills of the good guys against the ingenuity of the bad guys.

You have a really good point there, I wonder if that was behind the reason not to include it. It seems everyone else is including it in there devices though, so I am quite surprised as I quite like android beam on the Nexus 7

One that seems to have slipped under the radar is the fact that they have changed the connector format. Chuck out your old 30 pin docks and connectors or shell out another £25 for an adaptor for the new format.

I like Apple products, I own quite a few of them, but come on. This is just taking the piss. It all goes into a USB socket at the other end anyway.

That's one thing that is going to annoy lots of people.

Does the new iPhone enable one to make and receive phone calls, unlike most of the previous models? (Oh look one bar of signal, whoopee!)

I personally think the Nokia launch was better in terms of features even though it doesn't quite garner the following that the iPhone has

No, but then again the only shop I have seen in the UK that accepts NFC payments is Maccie D's!
