It remains to be seen. In principle it should be quite easy to build an app that uses MapKit (the iOS native APIs) and integrates Google's Street View API, but whether Apple would approve it, or Google would permit that use of its APIs, is a different matter. I can't be bothered to check at this time, but I'm pretty sure Google only allow Street View panoramas to be used with Google Maps.

Of course Google can make a Google Maps app including Street View support; but would Apple approve it?

A bit more Googling later... yes I think you're right, no street view. Perhaps Google will release a separate app. We'll see.

They have released? Or if not are about to release a YouTube app after Apple pulled that out of the standard iOS list of apps so it is a possibility, although it would be then a good carrot to use for people to not choose apple products and go with android if they wished. Blame it on apple for switching map tools and continue to improve it for non apple iOS users.

This could be the line in the sand moment for apple and google..

My 3GS is still going strong and I've never had any battery issues.

Does anyone know if the 3GS will run iOS6? If so, is there any point in upgrading to the 5?

You just need some social skills to get the genius bar to feel a little more generous than usual, but my Iphone was the 4th product that I have had replaced for free in the time that I have been buying apple products (hint is dont be an arsehole and turn up being grumpy like someone owes you something for free...)

I saw a review yesterday, which likened the 5 to a Toyota Camry, nice, safe, dependable, when the 3 was like a sleek new BMW coupe, desirable, cutting edge, etc. It suggested that the 5 was simply sticking to a formula that works, rather than adhering to the founders mantra of cutting edge design and functions, that the interfasce had barely changed and the inovators in the market were now samsung and the like.

I need a new phone and was contemplating the 5, but after reading that, may wait until some user reviews.

That's weird, because obviously on Windows/Mac browsers, browser is all you've got. So I wonder if it's a limitation of iOS Safari (use of Flash maybe) or simply that the server detects you're on iOS and serves a different version.

Question, will AppleMaps be available in the browser or are they iOS-only?
