I have both a cleaner & ironing service,

Cleaner costs £150/month. (they provide all materials)
Ironing costs £60/month (just work wear & going out stuff)

I got references & copies of insurances for both.
I tidy up before the cleaner so that they spend their time cleaning not tidying.

BGG can’t do it & I don’t have the time so it works out for us, a lot less stress all round.

£210 a month!? Jebus! I can see a plan B here.
For the cleaning alone sssuming they do a couple of hours a week on minimum wage, that's what 6*2*4=£48 labour and £102 profit to the company on one cleaner. Also assuming they can do 3 clients a day, that's 306 profit a month on just one cleaner.

If I were you I'd find an independent cleaner it should be at least half the cost.


Personally I'd rather not have a stranger rumage through my stuff. They all do it.

£115 a month for 2.5 hours cleaning a week and 30 mins ironing. Includes agency fee as they have insurance, did reference checks etc before she started (although its been the same cleaner for 3 years now & I'd be happy to use her without the agency). Money well spent - used to hate spending my weekends cleaning & ironing.

We have a cleaner that comes a couple of times a week @ £10/hr. She runs her own business, i think she has a couple of people working for her now although its always her that does our house. Costs me £30/week as she does 2 x 1.5hrs but its cracking coming home on a Friday to find everything clean & tidy and the floors all mopped

Definitely worth it, as the missus is a lazy arse!

IIRC you live in Essex, I guarantee you are paying double what the cleaner gets by using an agency.

What area do cleaners charge so much? Up north it's cheap, but down south you have all those immigrants so it's also cheap?

It’s in Essex, £10-12 is the going rate & I would rather pay a bit more for a reputable company, after all if they clean the place out, you could guarantee that my contents insurer would just say “well you gave them the key”

The fee to the agency is my main beef, it's something like 50% margin. Which is understandable when the cleaner's rate is so low but I'd rather pay the cleaner the extra.

The only time we had an issue - cleaner dropped the iron and left a cartoonesque burn on the hall carpet - the agency said it would have to be claimed on the house insurance not theirs. Which seems to make engaging their services rather pointless.

As a fairly independent person and a Yorkshire man (read tight), I pretty much do everything for myself like cooking, cleaning, shopping, ironing, washing etc etc

Though I am wondering if this is the best use of my time? Has anyone got some help in, how did it work out? Obviously id be employing the youngest most attractive person who applied.

I once used the services of a girl who charged £150 an hour for stuff that I found tedious on my own. Sounds just like what you need. I never thought to ask if she would do the washing up. Damn.
