Getting a good cleaner is a nightmare. Have had two so far and sacked both of them.

Bone idle, lazy, unreliable, completely useless.

One thought it was ok to text us at 10pm the evening before and say she wouldnt be cleaning tomorrow because it was her birthday then got a bit put out when I replied 'So? dont you work on your birthday?' Apparently not. Also, arriving late, going early - I guess we all do it sometimes, come in 10-15 mins late on monday, or skive off 15 mins early on friday but I wasnt happy when her idea was arrive 30 mins late, leave 30 mins early when she was only paid for 2 hours!

The other one we had was worse though. In the 4 months or so we employed her (say 16 weeks) must have turned up about 5 times. The other 11 times we had some sort of family emergency every time - never heard so many great excuses!

Neighbour at my place in Devon is a lawn cutter/gardener/tree surgeon so he keeps my place in Devon looking respectable seeing as I am in London most of the time now.

Did my chunk in. Especially when the Mrs was hassling me on a monday morning as I'm getting ready for work, to clean up some mess or other because cleaner was coming this morning. Defeats the object if you ask me - I pay someone to do it so I dont have to stress about not cause myself more grief by having to clean something just because the cleaner is coming.

Also, mrs used to have a thing that it wasn't fair to expect the cleaner to clean the toilets because no-one should clean someone else's toilet. LOL. Not being funny and fair enough, dont leave a zeppelin in there poking up 4" above the water line, but I dont know what she thinks hotel cleaners do? :-)

I hate dealing with tradespeople of any description and only have them in my house as a last resort BUT I don't want to clean and neither does the missus so we have a cleaner in every couple of weeks. She takes the ironing too for 10 bob a shirt - bargain.
I am waiting for the inevitable 'cleaning-cliff' as she realises we are a soft touch. Oh and the other criteria is that I am nowhere near the house when she is there.
Same goes for the chap doing the garden, easy money for what he does but I don't want to do it.
Missus deals with them, I pay, seems to work.

I was brought up to think that you clean your own mess up, so I don't have to bother with any of this.

Exactly. You can't polish a turd, but you can clean the bowl and under the rim.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

If that suits you fair enough.

I remember going on a forum once though - think it was moneydiet or something and some fella having a right go at me saying I should be ashamed expecting someone to 'slave' away at cleaning my house.

Bit rich considering the pay was about £5 above minimum wage. Mind you they didnt reply when I pointed out that if everyone thought like that then the poor cleaner wouldnt have a job.

I have both a cleaner & ironing service,

Cleaner costs £150/month. (they provide all materials)
Ironing costs £60/month (just work wear & going out stuff)

I got references & copies of insurances for both.
I tidy up before the cleaner so that they spend their time cleaning not tidying.

BGG can’t do it & I don’t have the time so it works out for us, a lot less stress all round.

£60 for ironing seems pretty pricey. But then so does £150 for cleaning, nearly £40/week?! maybe you have a giant house?
