You don't need to be in the UK to get a role, I spend the winter in the sun, apply on-line, do phone interview from the beach. I don't go to the UK until I have a role or at least have done a phone interview and they want to see me.

I do not need to be in the UK? That's the impression I got from this forum. At least for a contract role.

I will try to get something before coming to London, upload my CV and take it from there. But I should have enough savings to last me 6 months.

Don't take the word of others. Visit a few areas and see what you think. Before I rented the place I use down here I liked the look of those flats at Woolwich Arsenal. I went off them once I saw the route between the DLR stop and the flats - not all that nice. So now I stay in North Greenwich. Nice and quiet and only one stop on the tube to work.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

      I preferred version 1!

Frankly, like most big cities, there are very few "nice" bits that aren't less than a mile from some pretty dodgy areas. Look at Vauxhall: you've got the sought-after St George's Wharf, where all sorts of the Great and Good live, right next to possibly the dodgiest underground in all of London. It's also only about hundred yards from Soho.
Must be a different Soho to the one I know

Edit: Mind you, that "100 yards" would involve walking past Downing Street which is full of dodgy characters.

Yeah that's what I will do, just wanted some opinions/pointers from where to start. From these posts, I will look mostly at the West of London, and see how that goes.

This is also my aim once I've filled the warchest a bit more.

Do you do this every year in a kind of 6 month on 6 month off way ? Or do you need to be a bit more flexible depending on the contract situation ?

              .

Your ignorance is matched only by your absolute sureness of yourself, like most of the spotty contractors on here.
Been to the Webb Estate?, or Bishop's Road in Hampstead or large parts of Richmond or Barnes, or Highgate, Kensington or Chelsea ....?
Judging by your pictures your crappy flat is no great shakes, either
              Hard Brexit now!

Not nice. Out of order, even.

But a great description of Spod.

There is the other side of london also. I looked at Greenwich itself and that's quite nice and an easy commute to the city
