As another poster has said consider North East. South Woodford and Chigwell are nice and only 20-25 mins direct to Liverpol St.

Avoid anywhere closer in than Snaresbrook. Also avoid anywhere on the Ilford line.

If I was going to relocate to London I would not go anywhere other than South West London. Kingston, Richmond, Surbiton etc etc are nice areas where you need not fear an assault from drunken chavs.

I would agree with this, of the four quadrants it's by far the nicest.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

I was in Hammersmith on Saturday. I thought it looked a bit of a dump TBH

                  Hi All,

I am moving to London early next year, to work to start contracting, and I wanted to know if any of you can suggest a nice area (west london preferably) to live in, and which also have good tube/train links to the centre, where I am hoping most of my contract would be. I have already been to London 4 times in the past, stayed in Clapham Common, Hyde Park, Kensington but these were just short holidays.

I also heard that there are some tube links which are more busy then others especially in the rush hour.

I also read some material online, and most probably I would be looking at Ealing and the surrounding areas. It looks like it has a lot of green areas and also good transport links to the city.

What I would be looking for is a fairly safe area with some good nightlife and most importantly green areas like parks where I can do some jogging and good gyms/fitness centres.

                  Any suggestions?
                  Chelsea harbour. Good helecopter links.

Guess it depends where abouts you are.
I'm staying in the area between Ravenscourt Park and shepards bush road.

Depends where you are and where you are working. The tube extends out to Richmond and Wimbledon and trains into waterloo and/or victoria vary in frequency depending on where you are. If you are working in the city then 20-30 minutes into waterloo + 5 mins on the waterloo and city is one of the more pleasant commutes compared to e.g. 45 mins on the northern or central line as although the W&C is massively crowded it's mercifully quick. If you are working in Canary Wharf then it's a bit of a PITA but no more so than anywhere else that isn't on the jubilee line or DLR.
