Assange has stated publicly that he would happily go face his accusers in Sweden if he was guaranteed that he wouldn't be extradited to the US, it was Sweden who refused to give this assurance and also Sweden who refused to interview him in the Ecudorian embassy (he hasn't been charged with anything yet).
The UK if they really wished to get Assange could simply end diplomatic relations with Ecuador and therefore expell the embassy, very different from implementing an old law going against internationally agreed diplomacy rules of entering a foreign embassy uninvited. instead they chose to announce that they could do it if they wished and so forced Ecuador to grant him asylum. this way they can say to the US and Sweden "well we tried" without officially supporting the asylum.
So many on the BBC comments are going on about if he raped ur daughter what would u think. He hasn't actually be charged with rape, he is wanted for questioning which in my book falls in the innocent until proven guilty category and as stated above he would attend the questioning if it wasn't that he believed that it is simply a ploy to extradite him to the US to face far more serious charges of terrorism which depending on which state he is extradited to could at worse case see him face the death penalty.Comment

If it's me with that highlighted text your referring to then I invite you to read the link nick posted to earlier in which it was clearly explained by a notable legal professional that this was a clear option.
If it's the UK Gov you refer to then please enlighten me with what you think they're up to?
That only leaves you as the third option in which case I agree, you are.Last edited by chef; 16 August 2012, 16:52.The proud owner of 125 Xeno Geek PointsComment

Do you think they would try to expel a whole countries embassy just to arrest one man, who is just wanted for questioning? They tried to arrest him that's all that happened no big conspiracy.
Just because it's an option doesn't mean it's wise or likely.
Sometimes I wonder about peoples reasoning skills.Comment

I recognise to some (deluded fools) assange is some kind of hero for spewing confidential cables to all and sundry.
If he believes himself to be some self styled do gooder in the world, he should submit himself to the democratic law process and argue his innocence of the crimes brought against him.
Myself, I think he's a self seeking arrogant ****wit who sees himself above the law hence why he is trying to evade it be claiming diplomatic immunity.
Just my thoughts though.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!Comment

It's a tricky one. On the one hand - it seems there's a case to answer re the rape accusation. On the other hand there's obvious politicking going on because he was one of the WikiLeakers. On the gripping hand, he's an arrogant, egotistical smeghead with delusions of adequacy and a messiah complex.*
Send him to Sweden is my vote.
* How long has he been a member here?Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

He gives me the impression of a con-artist of the most exceptional order.
Look at how he has been able to get people to bend over backwards to help him, screws them over (in more ways than one if the Sweden allegations are correct) and yet they still thank him for it - like those now facing a bill for 10s of thousands in bail surety, not all of whom were super rich.Comment
