I'm sure that is the case, otherwise they wouldn't run so many empty ones?

First Class is supposedly used to lower prices for the Kettle Klass.

However, even the Kattle Klass now costs like £160 from Bham-London at peak time (which starts at 3pm from London), First Class is I think £250, so the price differential is very small now, one would have thought that there would be less First Class carriages now because more money can be made from the Kattle Klass...

It seemed to suggest Manc - London would be cut from 2 hours to 1 hour which really is significant, other journeys it didn't seem anywhere near as drastic.

Meanwhile the new Azuma (or is it Zumba?) trains on the East coast are going to also make a big difference though I forget the numbers.

The piece of the jigsaw missing is the east-west main line. Liverpool - Leeds (Hull?). It will be quicker to go to Birmingham and out to Leeds after HS2 than to use the 'Direct line'. Add in the Freight and this route makes extremely good sense and any relief on the M62 will save lives and huge sums of money.

Spot on, been saying this for years. Liverpool, Warrington (a WCML interchange), Manchester, Halifax, Leeds, A.N.Other ECML interchange, Hull.

Improve the car parking/roads around Warrington, too, and you can simply pull off the M6, park up and be in Liverpool or Manchester within 15 minutes rather than having to drive in.

Seeing as this was supposed to go through my back garden I would consider this a boom

HS2 rail extension to Leeds set to be scrapped

Spend the money upgrading the Trans Pennine link, would make a much bigger impact.

That's been cut down to a few improvements as well - rather than the proposed completely new line via Bradford.

But but but surely the Tory scum can make sure that the upgrades only benefit their constituencies?

I'd seen revised plans that it was going to be a tunnel under Eshald lane.
