RBS 'Computer Glitch'

I've heard that, whilst it is a deployment issue (basically they've deployed the configuration from a test environment into live by mistake, thus screwing up the batch), this change was actually made several days before the initial problem was noticed, so they have data corruption going back to the point that the deployment happened. They don't know exactly when this happened, so they don't know which backup to restore and which transactions to replay. Replaying multiple days of transactions obviously takes time, and they can't take the bank down during the banking day to do it.

Maybe if they actually gave a tulip they'd spend years in R&D and buy hardware/software to actually avoid batch processing altogether and if they still have to do it get somebody who is paid enough to NOT feck it up!

I laughed when I first read this.

now I am thinking about it. i realise that my latest app is not a transaction based system.

On Channel 4 News they just asked that Susan Allen woman from RBS whether India was involved.

"All of the oversight was here in Edinburgh" was her reply.

Pity they didn't follow up by shouting "THAT WASN'T THE ******* QUESTION!" in her face.

It's hard to get away from batch processing when that's all your IT has ever done. Even if they completely replaced their entire IT it would still have overnight batches scheduled by control-m or something.

If they can screw this up, then I'm going to start using the medieval method of burying valuables in a hole in a field.

My one NatWest current account is showing -£61 where it should be showing £14,000+.

I have (Many) direct debits due out for the weekend from that account too.

I think I have a right to be concerned

I'm taking a stroll over to the NatWest when they open

I may take a stroll to another bank too and open another account.
