I'm watching the event on Tv in Australia now.

Ive been here so long I'd almost forgotten how it felt to live in the UK and feel that some of ones countrymen, fellow students, colleagues were from a completely different country.

The class system in Australia is a meritocracy.

I felt a poll was needed, so I've added one.

There is one over-riding reason for not getting rid of the monarchy. We'd need to have someone as head of state in the monarch's place. That would almost certainly end up being an elected position. This is bad for two reasons.

      1. Countries like the US, Russia and France have presidents.
      2. It could be Tony Blair

Think "London Mayoral Election" on a country-wide level. I'm sure that on that basis alone the Royals are worth every penny of the civil list.

Good to hear you will be celebrating the new King.

BTW If we didn't have a Queen we would have to a have a president. Looking around Europe you seem to get another politician who is a nobody. This nobody has a tendency to lie or like the fact they get the trappings of power.

We should live in a Meritocracy and a democracy, what have the Monarchy done to deserve such honours. Success and celebrity should be based on merit not on lineage, officials should be elected.

The Queen is your head of state.

Most Australians I've met don't mind her simply because it's stops another corrupt politician being the head of state.

Yes in an ideal world but it isn't.

You elect politicians and apart from a very few they are all corrupt to one extent or another.

More flaws in that comment than an entire North London housing estate. What are you taking to be so delusional?

And where can I get some?

It's an ideal, but one we should be aiming for, the first step is to ditch the monarchy and elect President Russell.

In other words thw class system is dictated according to money. That doesnt make it any more desirable.
In fact the class sytstem in the Uk is far better than a meritocratic class system.

Maybe you should look up meritocracy in the dictionary before posting your usual moronic statements. It doesn't mean money you degenerate The UK class system is much more geared towards money.
