EU court blocks data deal with US

The European Commission took the decision under the EU Data Protection Directive, but the directive does not apply to data collected for security purposes.

Obviously the data is being collected for security purposes, or are there people here argueing they are collecting the data to sell to third parties so you can get late night calls asking if you need double glazing?

No, thats why it got overturned. The original agreement with the US to export the data was signed by the commison was based on the principle that security data was not coverd by the Data Protection Directive. The court has over turned this descision.

I understand it to mean that the court decision overturns the whole directive, not to overturn all but security data.

Ah, maybe I misread it? Anywho, the directive doenst kick in until September which means by then a new way of handing over the info will have been found.
