I say to my girls that they are perfectly welcome to do any job that requires no qualification but point out to them all the people we know that love their job and have nice houses & lives have decent qualifications.
95% of people will benefit from lifelong learning, I have seen jaded junior admin people blossom when they have been trained. That may not be college but is allowing potential to come out.
For years we have been saying don't close good schools make the other ones better, the Acadamies have turned around the dreadful schools in my area. My Eldest goes to an Academy that used be a school that only had a reputation for training for prison, its now massively over subscribed.
The problem I see with cleaners - there are two main ones from the mummy set, one does it cash in hand while claiming and the other fits it around being a stay home mum her hubby being a tradesman, is that its a hobby business. Both have suggested they tail off trying to please a client after a while. Though if you look at £15 an hour with no barrier to entry its actually a quite attractive little business.
