How is it acceptable to spend a large part of your life doing stuff that makes you unhappy?

I'd have thought that was obvious. Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to earn money by doing things they like.

And you do very well at achieving it! What's with the random new-lines?

Seems a very depressing attitude to me. I genuinely enjoy writing code in a similar way I imagine a plasterer or carpenter or landscape gardener enjoys making stuff. Obviously that makes me a total nerd, but I'd rather be a nerd and happy than a miserable big-shot.

I love building stuff too but i've had too much good work derailed to put my heart and soul into it anymore.

I've devoted my remaining work time to making as much cash as I can. This is freeing in more ways than one. It's worked out really well for me in the 6 years i've been working like this.

One bad thing you can do is let those in control know you are enjoying something - then they know what your carrot is.

I solve problems in interesting (to me) ways - and I keep quiet about it. I have been to hell and back to reach this point and method of working. Whatever gets you through the day!

Give me a greenfield project next FFS otherwise I'll have to do my own thing. There's something quite soul destroying after a while knowing that you cannot fail to get a gig at 2k plus a week from surfing Jobserve. The
possibility of failing is what personally drives me.
