The number of deaths on the road fell pretty consistently from 1965. Introducing fixed speed cameras in 1992 doesn't appear to have made any difference to the trend; in fact the steepest decline is from 1990-1992 before the speed cameras were introduced, and in the noughties in the early years of the national safety camera scheme when the number of cameras increased, things seem to remain pretty constant. Will work inside IR35. Looking at the surrounding area, the vast majority of accidents were motorcyclists with no other people involved. Most of the nearby cameras are forward facing and they can not be used to catch motor cyclists.
I could not find one camera site that had multiple accidents nearby but there are many black spots without cameras."A people that elect corrupt politicians, imposters, thieves and traitors are not victims, but accomplices," George OrwellComment

However, the forward facing camera is sited on the other carriageway that has had no accidents.

my garden gnome comment ^^^ is about blackspots.
The argument is that there will always be blackspots and that many of these will be statistical flukes rather than true danger spots. These will eventually regress back to the mean, so even a garden gnome would reduce accidents there, eventually. and it would be cheaper and prettier than a camera

Well I'm just a goody two shoes.
I will NEVER speed in a 30 or 40 zone, its built up and residential! Why people think its ok is beyond me.
I'll speed on the motorway though, sensibly with the flow of traffic.Comment

The Tele-Traffic boss, Jon Bond, who was until a few months ago the police Chief Superintendent in charge of speed cameras in Warwickshire, urged our reporter to place an order and promised: 'There will be so much money coming in you won't know what to do with it.'
He and his colleagues revealed how:
So many motorists are being snared that courts are struggling to process the sheer volume of cheques sent to pay fines.
Tele-Traffic is run by former traffic police who offer to introduce customers to currently serving officers willing to give advice on the products

But what sets these apart from 99% of speed cameras is that there are big "speed camera" signs in each direction giving pleanty of warning. 10/10 for Northants police in this instance for putting improving safety above revenue generation, or worse, trying to turn ordinary law abiding people into criminials to try to acheive some kind of political motive.
Sadly, I think Northants are one of the worst in other areas, but still. Credit where it's due.
Of course, a bridge would be a far beter, and safer solution.Last edited by VectraMan; 10 April 2012, 15:06.Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment
