Every insurance company has a different risk profile so the costs change to suit. There is no standard price across the board. They are after a certain scope of customers and will give reasonable prices for them, anything out of this the prices will go ballistic as it isn't in their profile.

I was e-sure one year for £600 and next renewal was £2400 as I had dropped out of their target profile....

Go hunting.... but don't be expecting a lot less than that. One of the family pays close to that for a 1.8D Focus.

Interesting thing is what you consider a nice area, insurance people might not. It is all on postcode and even then their can be a surprise. What you believe to be an affluent nice area can be a high risk one as there is a £60K range rover stolen once a month rather than 10 £300 piles of crap from an estate.

Also... the majority of the money you pay is nothing to do with you or your car. your age or anything like that, it is to cover compensation claims. You can have a car worth a quid but when you hit someone they still want a million compensation.

Don't go to confused.com as you simply will not find the best deal on it, all you will find is the best deal from the companies website, which isn't the same, and a way off their best deals, imo.

I've sometimes found it's the other way around, but certainly I've never got the exact same price from the same provider using different techniques.

Although you can get more bonuses like cashback or stuff using a comparison site so it's worth factoring that in - same with utilities and stuff as well.
