I've sometimes found it's the other way around, but certainly I've never got the exact same price from the same provider using different techniques.Originally posted by Zoiderman View PostDon't go to confused.com as you simply will not find the best deal on it, all you will find is the best deal from the companies website, which isn't the same, and a way off their best deals, imo.
Although you can get more bonuses like cashback or stuff using a comparison site so it's worth factoring that in - same with utilities and stuff as well.

Vehicle 18 months old.
Worth a few quid
Deepest darkest scrumpy hamlet
Good few years off Saga
Parked off private road
20k with business
Full NCB (7+)
Privilege

Had to phone about, also helped by saying X Comp (checking not affiliated) offered me insurance for Y value (making sure its around the figure you want to pay) and then ask what they can do about it.
Privilege offered to match on phone.

Every insurance company has a different risk profile so the costs change to suit. There is no standard price across the board. They are after a certain scope of customers and will give reasonable prices for them, anything out of this the prices will go ballistic as it isn't in their profile.Originally posted by Sands of Time View PostI'm old (not quite Saga)

I was e-sure one year for £600 and next renewal was £2400 as I had dropped out of their target profile....
Go hunting.... but don't be expecting a lot less than that. One of the family pays close to that for a 1.8D Focus.
Interesting thing is what you consider a nice area, insurance people might not. It is all on postcode and even then their can be a surprise. What you believe to be an affluent nice area can be a high risk one as there is a £60K range rover stolen once a month rather than 10 £300 piles of crap from an estate.
Also... the majority of the money you pay is nothing to do with you or your car. your age or anything like that, it is to cover compensation claims. You can have a car worth a quid but when you hit someone they still want a million compensation.
