Always found ones I worked with in aircraft software very bright and competent. Even more reason to be careful about what sort of work we give them, it's experience they will eventually use to compete against the UK.

How many million Indians in the IT world? As you state. They can't all be crap.
Can you please post some links for blogs of Indian, forward thinking & talented developers or IT strategists that _lead_ our industry and show us the way forward?
I would really like to see what their future brings. Because if the offshore model wasn't such a shambles, I am sure we would see more leaders of the field. Instead most of the time I find the near shored teams to be secretive, unwilling to share information and frankly sly.
Most of the last ten years, I have had to put up with co workers that try to cut and shut documents, code & solutions stolen from others hard work without attributing their contributions. That do not follow the basic tenets of the office environment that they work in. That regularly tell the customer one thing in English while openly discussing the real facts of the situation in their own tongue. I am sorry to say that most of these statements are not being made about European workers... I actually had an Indian mate & co worker sat next to me while two Indiots were openly discussed what they had done wrong. It was a joy to watch their faces after he leaned over and explained to the client what they were saying.
Sorry if you feel offended by the fact that we have a really dim view of the Indian market but frankly every time I can paste a code snippet into google and find the page it came from, point out that they should not be cutting and pasting the entire Blackberry manual into a company branded document. Or catch them out and out lying to the customer They compound the issue.Last edited by bobspud; 24 February 2012, 08:49.Comment

We all copy code snippets from Google to not reinvent the wheel, what bugs is the inability to understand that code snippet is and to use it "as it is" and expect it to work. There is a lack of basic aptitude.Vote Corbyn ! Save this country !Comment

I'm nearly OCD so when I learned to use Perl I would write a question to the perlmonks and try and include some pseudo code for what I wanted to achieve. Then take the answer, understand what was happening in the supplied code snippet and then re-write that code into the context of the script or program that I was writing...Originally posted by fullyautomatix View PostWe all copy code snippets from Google to not reinvent the wheel, what bugs is the inability to understand that code snippet is and to use it "as it is" and expect it to work. That way if I am holding a global var @array_of_mount_points and I get to $array_of_mount_points[1] in my loop, tracing that value is not impossible because its name does not change between FOO BAR THINGY and $VAR in the same ******* procedure.
It's not a lack of aptitude its an "I don't care, because no one is going to bollock me for it" attitude. IMO that's worse.
EDIT:
Oh and a message to the brainless twunt that thought sucking that the answers to your SQL query into an array called @STUFF was a good idea...
When you tried it on your own laptop test system, I am sure select * from users worked fine with 5 users in the table. But when you have 2,000,000 customers in the live server database, then the FSCKING memory array that you create just so that you can find one user will be in excess of 2gb for every funking thread that is doing it at the same time you brainless moron!!!!

Didn't read the whole thread and don't want to get dragged in to the culture and quality thing but just like to point out there are some big companies doing some major inshoring, particularly with helpdesks and are actively marketing UK helpdesks as a benefit.
They wouldn't be doing this if offshore services were as good as some people think.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

This would suggest that they had more than one table. I saw an Indian built core banking system that stored everything from metadata through operational data to variables in one big table. Yep, really, I know, I struggled to believe it when I saw it, but it's real and your bank might be using it.Originally posted by bobspud View PostWhen you tried it on your laptop test system I am sure select * from users worked fine with 5 users in the table. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment
