If moslims are so peaceful, why today is it always them, and not jews, hindus, christians, or even satanists that are a wholesale pain up the @rse? Northern Ireland was a vicar's tea-party in comparison.

I'm not one for embracing all customs and rituals of our ethnic minorities but I dont see what the problem is here. If you don't fancy having the end of your knob chopped-off, then don't! It shouldn't bother you if Mr Akbar or Mr Baumberger, down the road, choose to do so.Originally posted by xoggothAbout time too we stood up for the right of white British to have a culture and beliefs of their own like anyone else and stopped pretending that some practices, like ritual slaughter of animals or circumcision, are anything but barbaric backwardness.Comment

And therein lies the problem
Mr akbar or mr baumberger can indeed make their own choices about their own lives, but no tulip-for-brains-gullible-twat is going to be allowed to treat my children as second-class citizens because they happen to be female, not in this country, if they want to live in the 16th century they can **** off back to a 16th century country, for example any country run by the religious.Originally posted by ALMI'm not one for embracing all customs and rituals of our ethnic minorities but I dont see what the problem is here. I wouldn't say many of those kind of countries are really quite that advanced.Originally posted by Dundeegeorgeif they want to live in the 16th century they can **** off back to a 16th century country, for example any country run by the religious.Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

I couldn't agree more! The only 'incident' that I can remember where there were slight murmurs from the 'Chinese community' were in response to the headlines "Chinese food can kill you" with reference to high levels of carciogens found in some brands of soy sauce. Nothing heavy handed and no threats of violence - just wanted the sensationalism to be corrected.Originally posted by The MasterMaybe, maybe, but to say they are no more of a "problem" (your words) is not really true I would suggest. You rarely, if ever, see a story relating to "we must not do xyz in case it offends the Chinese community" (to use one example).
As a whole, the chinese tend to stay quiet about trivialities that seem to offend other races - as such, they seem to get off quite lightly! By now I think you may have sussed that I am chinese. I have a simple set of values with regards to what I find offensive - I am offended if someone is trying to offend me. Someone genuinely wanting to know whether or not I do Kung Fu is not offensive. That is all. I think Christmas lights (well, was topical a few months back ago) kinda look purty and I think that things like this are a unique part of a particular country's personality.
With regards to a comment earlier on the excuse that Bangladeshis come from poorer backgrounds and therefore are less likely to succeed....what?!! This makes you want to succeed more. Again, take the chinese as an example. China was until recently a country held back by communism. Yes, although some parts are thriving, some are still like those areas you see on those documentaries - one month's wages for a Big Mac n Fries! Surely this makes people want to succeed more when they are given an opportunity! I think that's what 'other' first and second gen migrants are missing the point of- seize the opportunity, instead of using excuses to be negative moan moan moan!Comment

OK. Exactly what injustice was your daughter forced to suffer on account on Mr Akbar and Mr Baumberger? I said I accept your interpretation, why cant you accept mine? One who seeks to belittle has usualy run out of arguments.Originally posted by ALMNot defending religioin per se. Merely asking for it not to be misrepresented. And there is a difference!
I take it you have not made a study of the traditions then?I am not qualified to give the above advice!

currently my daughters don't
Who knows what they'll have to put up with if the ignorant and the stupid take over the country, or have enough power to force their delusions on the rest of us.Originally posted by ALMOK. You seem to be arguing for religious tolerance. I'll happily tolerate the tolerant, the rest of you crazies can FAOD as far as I'm concerned.Last edited by Dundeegeorge; 16 May 2006, 12:54.Why not?Comment
