No offence intended LG. I am merly asking you to substantiate your viewpoint. Tradtions? I have to confess I haven't a clue what they are. Do you mean the sayings of Mohammed?

What's all this interest in Islam FFS.

You are IT contractors. You need to talk about tax, house prices and whores.

With regards to a comment earlier on the excuse that Bangladeshis come from poorer backgrounds and therefore are less likely to succeed....what?!! This makes you want to succeed more. Again, take the chinese as an example. China was until recently a country held back by communism. Yes, although some parts are thriving, some are still like those areas you see on those documentaries - one month's wages for a Big Mac n Fries! Surely this makes people want to succeed more when they are given an opportunity! I think that's what 'other' first and second gen migrants are missing the point of- seize the opportunity, instead of using excuses to be negative moan moan moan!

Common sense post of the day.

Traditions: Yes they are the sayings and acts of the prophet.

I dont have time to quote chapter and verse of the Koran. Clearly there are places which talk about defence and limits but there are others which clearly state fight and kill the unbelievers.

The early revelations were accepting and peaceful and defensive, but as Islam grew stronger later revelations tended towards agression.
The Koran is the word of God to Muslims and must be obeyed. The traditions are discussed and interpreted by Imams as what Mohamed ould have done and in many cases that is fight.

There are a number of online searchable versions of the Koran and I have invited all to read them. I am not trying to misrepresent I am asking for informed debate.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

By now I think you may have sussed that I am chinese. I have a simple set of values with regards to what I find offensive - I am offended if someone is trying to offend me. Someone genuinely wanting to know whether or not I do Kung Fu is not offensive. That is all. I think Christmas lights (well, was topical a few months back ago) kinda look purty and I think that things like this are a unique part of a particular country's personality.

Funny what coincidences happen. Just got the following in the email
            Laslo's Chinese Relativity Axiom:
No matter how great your triumphs or how tragic your defeats -- one billion Chinese couldn't care less.

Unfortunately, the Koran is the word of God and is interpreted by the mullahs.

The issue I have with a lot of the views expressed here are mixing up of two things - the extreme interpretation of Islam and actions of this extremist group with the larger, peaceful community.

The larger group aren't supporters of the smaller bunch of nutters. Period. They state it over and over, but all the media focuses on unfortunately is the minute 'newsworthy' group, which tarnishes the vast majority.

LG might well be right in his interpretation of the muslim faith (Though I got my doubts on how neutral he is and his preconceptions when reading the Koran, or even what his sources really are), but that's not an interpretation I've ever heard from any muslim I know.

To me it's ludicrous to seriously suggest they're walking round waiting for their chance to strike, they're normal people with normal worries who happen to follow a particular faith. They're not lining up to strap a belt on and blow themselves up and all bar a handful of the extremist clerics agree with us.

Personally I'll concentrate on disliking the ones who deserve it, otherwise we're heading down a very nasty road indeed. The whole enemy within line getting pounded out is far to reminiscent of pre-war European Jewish propoganda for my taste.

Did you not witness the recent revolt against the cartoons? Are you sure we are talking about a very small minority? Was that media scaremongery? That small number was just the people who felt strongly enough to hit the streets..............

Personally I'd put that down to a lot of hype and misunderstanding on both sides, but either way I still don't recall seeing your average muslim in the street doing anything worse than being pissed off that it happened. It's certainly not proof that muslims are bad people who want to kill us all in our sleep, which seems to be the party line in these parts.
