We need a Suity sweepstake as to how many hours before he gets his first moan in.

The first day of a new contract for Suity is invariably spent on a recon mission to find a scapegoat. Offshore bob team is a bulls eye target but failing that a PM will do.
Vote Corbyn ! Save this country !

I hope it's Oracle development. Maybe we could move on to the difference between a function and a procedure on this project.

We all know that the chances of one of those is slim, never mind both happening to Suity on the same contract!!

A funny sort of start, but in a good way. I'm certainly getting around a bit. Done some process reengineering, business analysis, documentation.

Then over the last couple of days been involved in discussions with a supplier to develop some custom web services to fetch some data from Oracle. The initial quote was 3 years. For 50 web methods. Even though the thoughtful chap what wrote the T-Spec also drafted the SQL queries as well as all the parameters, data types etc etc.

I was asked if I could prototype a web service to see how long it took, to retrieve a data set from Oracle. Turns out even an Oracle retard like me can turn that around in 20 minutes. Including the time it took to grab a coffee and write the SQL to build the table and chuck a few rows in.

So today, I wrote the Oracle package, some 25 functions. Functions, not stored procedures. See I'm moving up in the world. The quote to do this from the supplier was 60K.

                    I know that

                    a) I am burning through the work too fast
                    b) Making a rod for my own back
                    c) Missing a trick or two on the overtime front

Buuuut, it is my first week and I'm trying to make an impression. Also I'm sick and ******* tired of Bob a job Bob outfits charing an arm and a leg to take too ******* long to produce poor quality code.

A shot in the arm for the independant contractor. In fact I think this one noble and selfless act has probably moved the contracing market up a few notches. No need to thank me.

Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Sounds like a good start. Here's hoping it continues.
