Oh it is... Black means BLACK with LED back lighting, and no plasma ghost images.

Never noticed any ghosting on our plasma TV, or sat there thinking "that black looks a bit bright".

          Any time now...

LG to show 55in, 4mm-thick OLED TV at CES ? reghardware

LG will be showing off its largest OLED TV at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week having taken the telly tech to 55 inches.
The set is just 4mm thick
an "infinite" contrast ratio, LG claimed

Now that's a ******* telly. [drool] Believe it or not there's actually a woman in a short skirt in that picture, so I'm told.

I wonder how many years of contracting it will cost?

That is a pretty mint tv!

On another similar (ish) topic I have been thinking about getting a 3d tele... I have tried out both the LG 'passive' type and another 'active' type.

I could not really see much difference but can anyone else provide any real life experience on that?

if there is no major difference then the cheapness of the passive glasses is surely a winner!

Is 3D worth it? I still haven't seen anything which comes close to a reason, let alone a compelling reason, for getting a 3D TV

Personal taste - so I think you answered your own question.

I think it's quite cool, in the cinema at least, but also a gimmick. On the other hand the same could be said for stereo sound, surround sound, HD and color pictures, and screen sizes bigger than 24"... many people are still happy with their 24" SD CRT TV and think a big 42" HD plasma is a waste of money.

I agree about the cinema but there is also sports(sky) and gaming (PS3 offers 3D support for some games), i've no 3D experience of either!

I disagree that most of those are gimmicks as they add an extra layer of enrichment/information to the picture or sound

Which is exactly what 3D does - the question is if you personally find that worthwhile. Surround sound certainly adds something, but I still can't be arsed upgrading from a couple of stereo speakers because to me, it's not a big deal.

I would be interested to see sport in 3D... as for games I worry it might make me sick!

I wonder if these fandabbydozy OLED TVs that are going to be out 'soon' will be able to support the new active/passive 3D?

If not then I predict 3D will be even less successful than it currently is.

[Currently dreaming of these bezel-less ultra-thin OLED panels being the ideal solution for a wall of monitors. Now that's wallpaper I'd pay 10 grand for. ]
