Agreed, they're the ones who've built themselves a little nest of a comfort zone and are just waiting for retirement, can't take a risk, do something new, oh no.

Other than that, it has to be the Monday morning at the airport - serves me right for living in the sticks I suppose.....

That's the whole point of contracting! (it seems, from where I'm sitting)

I have spent all morning picking up the results of the tulipe resource planning presently in place at clientco. The dev director is off on paternity and the support director has changed the priorities over the last two weeks. So basically the project the support director was supporting has gone live after overrunning. The overrun has pushed out all of the phases on the other projects to past the 24th, that means they move in to Jan into something else. The twats had taken a month to decide to resource to whit I had already got them two contractors to do the work. They decided against it!

Had to explain to three clients(all of whom have paid for work) that their projects will now move out a month minimum, to whit in turn pushes out UAT, deployment, training and their good will.

In addition, have three more clients lined up to whit I am instructed not to give them any indication of level of effort, timescale or costs and all are champing at the bit to engage. Estimated costs £70k, £50k and £250k BI projects.

And all due to a constraint on ETL resource only!!!!

Being told the project are looking for someone to work with no supervision, ability to use their initiative, self-starter, hit the ground running etc, etc then having to run EVRYTHING through a Project / Programme manager before you do anything.

Along with the "why didn't you CC me into that email" mentality.

Having to use crappy client co computers. I always prefer to avoid that when I can.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Doesn't help when they put down rules preventing you from doing your job correctly.

I'm apparently running a project whereby I haven't been allowed to get in external resources as there are no internal people available to carry out the work and no contingency is allowed on a project.

I'm apparently supposed to utilise non existent internal people. So in effect I'm the only resource on my project

The sooner I can get outta dodge the better.
