    Things I Hate about Contracting

    1. Legacy code

I fooking hate having to trawl through 1000's of line of badly written spaghetti code to try and work out what it is that the code is trying to do. Whats worse is that 9/10 times the actual task in hand is relatively straight forward, it's just been complicated by incompetance.

    (I quite like that bit)

    2. Decision Making

Watching knobhead PMs make the completely wrong priority calls & then screwing up the resource plans so that instead of delivering 5 projects on time they deliver 1, piss off their clients who then tell everyone that the whole team is crap and cannot deliver.
What happens in General, stays in General.
You know what they say about assumptions!

Isn't that a disadvantage to being a code monkey rather than contracting?

      Get a real job

That's not contracting, that's just software development.

I never had to do it before I started contracting

Then you must have been the guy that left the legacy code for everyone else to deal with!

              Hates

Every contract I have done, I always come across some little officious permie troll who does a small but critical role and who make your life hell over the smallest of requests. Drives me insane, especially as they are always people who have done the role for years, are very ‘comfortable’ in the role and always send emails that copy in every man and there dog when they send the latest put down.

Aaaah the joys of working with ADM, coffee and a twix usually helps. They're eay to find, they're the people in jeans and trainers surrounded by a sea of shirts.

Business SMEs who delay projects because they can't be arsed to do their bits.

Spot on with that one, the PM we just had got his contract terminated early as he was so indecisive and had no interest on what was going on
