All true, especially the last sentence. I used to really enjoy working in I.T. but that's all changing now. Killjoys!

I know one of the Big Retail & Commercial Banks sent their Senior Management on "cultural Training" prior to engaging one of the overseas companies for resources. Who were then meant to cascade down the management whom would be dealing with the new resources.

Gist of the training was - ask several times - only then do you get the correct answer.

      Q. "Have you done XYZ, when will it be completed ?"
      A. "yes, today"
      Q. "Really, today / because you said that yesterday/2 weeks ago"
      A. "Yes"
      Q. "And I'll get this end of today /"
      A. "Yes"

      Next day

      Q. "Where is the XYZ you said I'd have yesterday ?"
      A. "So ...... Insert name was off sick/didn't supply the X, we're waiting on you to confirm you wanted it yesterday ........"

      And so on.

As somebody else said - it's a Cultural difference - where you more or less have to force them into a corner to get the right answer.

Once that's understood - it's hard work still - but at least you get a better grip on managing your own/Business's expectations.

        Wipro

Had an agent call me about a role available where I would be working within a bank but working for Wipro – does not fill me with excitement – thoughts?

(I am English, been contracting for 6 years in UK / USA / Europe)

You will cos it's a bank and everyone wants to work for a bank. If you're the sort of person who can do what they are told no matter what, it's fine.

Not everyone... it would need to be a truly exceptional role at an truly exceptional rate to get me to take a contract at a bank! They're quite far down in my list of preferred working environments...

I don't. It's one of the last places on earth I'd consider working.

Wipro have probably gone in dirt cheap so I wouldn't expect a good rate.

I've worked in banking - investment and retail for 15 years - it was the Wipro aspect I was concerned about!

£550 per day which is about normal for my limited skills.

I just don't have a massive amount of experience with Wipro apart from working with some of there offshore resource.

not had much experience of them myself.
I applied for a gig at Lloyds (south manchester) earlier in the year and was told i had it at 400/day.
was then told the gig was london and at max 350/day.
I told them where to go. Eventually the job appeared back at manchester at 390/day. I'd scored another gig though and haven't spoken to them since.

Current gig (Vodafone) has a large number of Wipro people as well.....not dealt with them yet but if the tech architecture i'm seeing is any measure it's going to be a long, bumpy (and therefore potentially very profitable) ride
