OP, I would be interested to know whether this would have happened had the bank not been propped up by the taxpayer?
i.e. did this manager who chose Wipro over local contractors believe he was getting better value for money from Wipro, or whether he was doing it to appease his (government) paymasters.
And if he thought he was getting better value, was he right? Wipro can't have gone from nothing to a multi-billion pound company in a couple of decades without doing something right surely?Comment

Yes they can. Allegedly the business model is :
(a) Abuse the ICT system to bring in non-specialist workers
(b) Pay them their home rates and UK expenses.
(c) Put them up in shared accomodation to miniise the actual cost while telling UKBA they are paying market rate per person
(d) Ensure nobody ever sees an employee payslip.

(e) Sell your staff on as qualified resources at roughly half the cost of the local workforce since your cost of employement is well under a third of the local suppliers
(f) persuade the client that outsourcing moves costs off bottom-line to revenue so saving them money
(g) Ensure you take every opportunity to gain incomce: for example, don't update an app, rewrite it from scratch
(h) make sure you take full advantage of inept senior politicians who believe you aren't actually screwing a whole, highly successful UK industry into the ground but are delivering skills that simply don't exist in the UK.
Of course this is all suppostion and hearsay. But the picture is remarkably consistent with observed behaviours....Blog? What blog...?

They are not good value.
Wipro charge the bank £260 a day for an 8 hour professional day.
Plenty of guys around who would be happy to undercut that.
I walk out of my office look around and its like downtown Delhi.

I won't work with any of the companies that pull the visa stunt out of principle. When one of the resource managers at my current client tried the Knowledge Transfer visa line to give me some cheapness from Chennai. I told him that if he did I would be having a word with the UK border agency, having the poor sods sent home, and his company reported for abuse of the system.
We abolished slavery in the 18th century but know its called a global workforce. Aparently all we did was remove the slave ships and tobacco...Comment
