Never heard of it - firstly with it being so thin are you sure only the screen is damaged? You might be best asking Amazon directly in case they can help. Also they have a very active Kindle forum: Amazon.co.uk: Customer Discussions: kindle forum
TBH if it's outside warranty, getting a new/refurbished one might be as cheap. Take a look at the new version too.

There are instructions on instructables.com for how to replace the screen - someone got hold of a cheap Sony e-ink reader and replaced the Kindle screen in there.
