Apple's stock price has risen more than 9,000% since Jobs returned in 1997. The shares have more than doubled in the past two years...

Apple shares are now trading 3.5% lower at €273, after hitting a low of €270 in Frankfurt. The shares are not traded in London. They are expected to open lower when Wall Street opens at 2.30pm London time.

Yes, selling computers in coloured cases was a success in style if not in substance. I feel that sums Apple up.

The iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch are computers. I use my iPad to edit code, SSH into servers and run stuff at the command line, SFTP files. In fact, I also have apps on my iPhone that let me do all that.

Just the other week I rebooted a sickly web server on EC2 using the Amazon Web Services app on my phone, then SSHed in and had a quick look round to make sure nothing was amiss (looking through logs, checking the state of the MySQL server, and so forth). This meant I didn't have to leave the pub

Certainly Woz had much more to do with the hardware in the early days.
He was good at product design and had great attention to detail but no, he was neither a hardware nor a software whizkid. He tended to have a good grasp on what was achievable, but left the actual implementation to others.

The story of the rounded rectangles is a good illustration of his relationship with the techies (as are all the stories on that site).

                I saw the headline

                Steve Jobs dies: latest

For some reason I read it as

                Steve Jobs dies: at last

RIP Steve, never been an Apple Fanboi but it's clear to me you had vision and a love of all things technical.

I'm certainly no apple fanboy but it's clear that the computing world would have been very different and much poorer without him. He's arguably done more to bring computing to the masses than anyone else, and played a significant role in championing a lot of great ideas that are now commonplace. He might not have been the most technical (personally I think he must have been pretty sharp to earn the respect of people around him) but he sure knew how to get the people who were to do great things.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

All that story told me was that the processor in the Macintosh was a bit tulip
