I nearly took a contract en Angleterre using Parasol, but now I'm so glad I decided to turn it down, take three months off to make a last-ditch attempt to save my marriage, see that fail, have four more months on the bench, and then take a contract paying less than what I was on seven years ago.

Just me - Between contracts I also work as a PI and Corporate Debt Collector. Part of the job entails turning up unexpected and banging on someones door to get answers/money. I learnt how to do this after a recruiter ran off with several tens of thousands of contractors money which I recovered. I speak from experience.

I wasn't suggesting going heavy handed but a visit sometimes speeds things up.

Why don't you train up and then when one is on the bench the other can keep the PI business up. Customers love continuity.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

You all should train to be debt collectors/credit controllers. These last few years has really highlighted how many contractors don't get paid.

5' 11" slim 13 stone. Certainly Would not regard myself as a heavy, known as quite quiet but I have an inability to allow myself/friends etc to be bullied in anyway so always respond. I think it's because I'm expected to stay quiet that makes me effective when suddenly I'm not that quiet anymore.

On a serious note - I'm gonna give 'em 1 more week to sort this out. If no results, then I'm gonna head on up there.

Nothing heavy handed, just a bit of consumer pressure like they do on TV. Private Eye's right, things normally get moving faster if you're there in person, sitting in their reception, drinking water from their cooler and generally using their reception facilities!

It's not like I'd be missing out on a day's pay or anything anyway!

                  Anyone in?

                  People power!

                    Ltd not Plc

I don't know whether this is relevant, but due to a disagreement in one of the other forums on whether Parasol employed the people who used them or not I noticed they are now a Ltd company. When I used them a year ago they were a Plc (I even asked them whether I could buy shares in them but they were unquoted). This perhaps implies they have either been bought out or have re-invented themselves for some reason.

Parasol online chat still down....phone system cutting people off......
I am so glad they don't owe me as badly as some of you since they introduced this naff system- under £20. I had another contract since but pushed that through my old brolly - off PSL lists from Hays. The only helpful person I have EVER spoken to on the helpdesk was Claire, the rest are unhelpful, and rude on occasions. I sent them an email last week, they still haven't done what I asked them to do (removed a contract sent in error to them). The only scary thought is who I will go with if I ever get another contract with Hays!
