Glad to see that my current client co are serious about taking responsibility for our health and safety at work. We all got to work this morning to find the following in our inboxes:
Safety on the Stairs
We kick off the campaign with a quick and simple questionnaire designed to
gauge your current perceptions, experiences and attitudes towards Stair
Safety here in XXXXXX.
Do you always hold the handrail?
Always
Mostly
Sometimes
Never
Do you think your colleagues always hold the handrail?
Always
Mostly
Sometimes
Never
Have you ever had an incident (e.g. slip, trip, drink spillage) on the
stairs?
Yes and I reported it
Yes but I didn't report it
No
Have you ever challenged anyone on the stairs?
More than once
Once
Never
Do you believe stair safety is important to people in XXXXXX?
Yes, it's the biggest risk we face day-to-day in the office
Somewhat, but there are other more important risks
No
How would you deal with spilling a cup of drink on the stairs?
Leave it - someone else will deal with it
Ask a colleague to sort it out
Clean it yourself
Raise a SEAR
Ask a colleague to stand nearby to warn other people whilst you alert FM
Ask your manager what to do
Something else
Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve stair safety?
<GricersReply>
I think a culture of snooping should be encouraged and that those irresponsible people who jeopardise the health and safety of others should be reported to the authorities.
I also think they should be named and shamed on the company intranet site.
In that way, staircase use violations will become as much of a social stigma as drink driving
