Craic, I got a suggestion for you which could help you win friends and influence people on CUK.

Start threads on climate change, gold prices or Gordon Brown putting us all into mega debt. People will read those threads and applaud you for the wisdom you have got.

Starting threads about killing people was perhaps a bit too extreme for the super posters in here. Try looking for a KKK forum for that one.

A better suggestion would be, create fewer threads than you reply to. In every social forum, a noob who turns up and starts spewing new threads without bothering to get involved will not make a great impression.

            As a long time lurker:

            This is CyberTory isn't it?

            Craic:
The fact that there are so many old hands shows the strength and longevity of the forum. It would be a poor place indeed if no one stuck around.
Even the old hands were newbies once.
Some of the people who have responded to you adversely will be regarded by others here as newbies. Eek, Automatix and others are relatively new. They turned up got stuck in and seem accepted.

You do have a point about bullying and domination, but it is not communal and it is not restricted to newbies. Contractors by their nature are individual and tend not to run with the pack. If there is a consensus that you are a cretin then maybe, just maybe, you are a cretin.
One or two posters do nothing but have a pop at others. They never contribute anything positive and rarely bring any evidence to an argument, but that is just how it is.
Old hands do get away with some things that newbies dont. That comes from having a reputation. It is not right but you either accept it or leave.
A number of old hands have left due to the perception of the board going downhill. Maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. You are free to do as they did. Bye.

Other freelancer forums are available should you not like it here. Shout99 and the PCG tend to be more civilized, but are often dull.
            Just saying like.

            where there's chaos, there's cash !

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong!

And I would suggest that if you haven't worked out just how "General" works by now, that you will be every bit as crap at being a Contractor as you are at being a Troll.

                Troll or dim. Possibly both.

When newbies innocently ask questions which should have been posted in the professional forums, they're usually treated pretty gently until a mod spots it and moves the thread. It's newbies in General who can get toasted - not newbies to CUK.

I reckon there are very few posts from noobs in General is because most people join the site to get tehcnical/accoutning/legal info (and probably speeling help too).

They get the info they need, maybe dip a toe into general and then get back on with their lives.

Mainly because if they want social interaction via the interweb they wil use Facefcuk or Tw@tter the old fogies on here schun this modern technology and so will rattle around here until they have posted their last.

well thats what i reckon anyway - in fact given that CUK General should be given some sort of British Heritage award or summat as if it is not saved it will die!

The exception to the rule once again eh, Craic.
Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.
