    Bike for work

    Hey guys,

    Can any of you two wheeled road warriors recommend me a bike - primarily for commuting to work, but I like the occasional bit of mountain biking (Not so easy in Sing, but at some point I'll get away for a ride somewhere).

    Looking to spend 500 ish, give or take - willing to pay more if that's the sensible option, my last bike lasted me 10 years so don't mind spending a wee bit extra if that's the advice given

    And how the fck are you all? Been a while, something about distance and timezone that puts me off posting more regularly. 1 1/2 years into life in Singapore and loving it. Can't think of a better place to live if you've a young family, and life here generally is very easy. All the stuff about Sing being boring is well off the mark, and at the risk of sounding like a smug b'stard it's the best financial move I've ever made

    Hope you're all well, billing the clients large sums and ducking the tax man with small payments.

    Normally I'd recommend a hybrid - they are normally good enough for canal tracks and the like but if you're going properly off road you're better off putting slicks on a mountain bike for commuting and swapping to nobblies if you go off road.

    I like spesh.

        Cheers MM. Funnily enough I've been looking at Specialized and the GF 29er, thinking two sets of tyres would be the way to go. I think my chances of getting off road will be limited, but I want that option and my commute is only gonna be about 15 minutes of riding.

        4F, lol - nope, though I'm playing footy for a team that's sponsored by a pub across the road from it (Muddy's), been there more times than my missus is entirely comfortable with ...

        Nah, place has been trying hard, it's continually developing. Since I've been here they've opened the Marina Bay, 2 casinos, universal studios, new MRT stations and they're still planning on loads more.

          Quick on, on the 29er - is that meant for bigger riders (i.e. not me), what's the scoop with the bigger wheels?

            It seems a shame to compromise on the 99% of commuting use of your bike for the 1% of 'proper' mountain biking. Isn't there a bike hire place you could use for the mountain biking? Or buy two bikes!

              I'd rather get a mtb and use that for commute, I'm all that into road biking - not something I'd do for fun, beyond going out with the family and commute to work. But I really enjoy bombing down single track
