I used to take the Local Government Schilling and always broke ranks when strikes were called for two reasons, if I was un happy with working conditions I could always go get a real job some where else and secondly the Union rep was a twunt (who I recently found out after leaving had been suspended for "Union Irregularities")Originally posted by Stevie Wonder BoyI can't see any way to do it can you please advise?

Never been a member of a union.
Unionism is used by the work-shy and incompetent, that's not good enough."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

I once had to cross a picket line at the BBC - the threatening comment was " we won't forget you" does that count? How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't thinkComment

In my first job, everyone was a member of either of the two unions on site, though officially, it wasn't a closed shop. I joined the one that had one of my team colleagues as it's steward - it seemed the politic thing to do.
There was a vote for an overtime ban, which I voted against. Apparently, I was the only one to vote against, but my colleagues thought it was some guy in another depot, who "probably needs the money". So the overtime ban went ahead, and I abided by it, despite not agreeing with it, because that's part of what being in the union means, once the vote's been taken.
I never joined a union again. And wouldn't, either.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

Real jobs, you know with rights, holiday pay and performance reviews where you can join a union to protect those rights, holiday pay and performance reviews!Originally posted by MarillionFan View Post

There was an NUS strike when I was a student, so I went to the pub. Does that count? And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

At one site, the workers got a premium when they were on holiday, in order to cover the lack of opportunity for overtime. I want the union guy who got that negotiating for me!Originally posted by SimonMac View PostReal jobs, you know with rights, holiday pay and performance reviews where you can join a union to protect those rights, holiday pay and performance reviews!Down with racism.
