Complaining they'll have to work until they are 65 before they collect their guaranteed pension. We will all probably have to do that anyway, as Brownstuff will be taxing us to the hilt to pay for the aforementioned pensions. And so the vicious circle continues. And Brownstuffs "solution"? More civil servants. Hmmm. Something tells me he hasn't really thought this thing through.

Of course, if you don't like it you can always

I heard they have this 85 rule. Only need to do 25 years service to claim full, index linked, final salary pension IIRC

      WTF?

If any of us wanted such a pension we would have to stuff about £3K a month into a pension. Greedy, fecking lazy tulipes.

Sack em all and send the work to India.

And you'll all no doubt be delighted to know that 26% of your council tax goes on providing the pensions for ex-council work and the percentage is likely to increase

The "85 Rule" says you can retire if service + age => 85. What these clowns are striking for is actually the right to preferential treatment. Very socialist...
          Blog? What blog...?

excep that civil servants, doctors, teachers etc all have this right as well. i.e. retire at 60 on full pension, no 85 rule needed either.

              Malvolio,

I've chased you about 50 times trying to get answer to this,

how is your Volvo (xc90) ?

is it the diesel auto and what is the reliability like of those cars ?

Are they as reliable as a Volkswagen Toureg ?

              Thanks,

              Milan.

What these "clowns" are striking for is to have their agreements honoured. They make the quite reasonable point that, when you join local government, the retirement benefits are an essential part of the package: part of the reason why you accept lower rates of pay than the private sector.

Whether or not the package is overly generous, is not the point: a deal was made, and the unions want it to be kept for existing workers, who made that deal.

Wish I could say I'm stunned that a load of people on this board would prefer to renege on the deal if there was a few quid in it for them.

Or go be a permie for local govt on crap pay for the next 25 years.....

                    Double standards on this board.

I've spent years saying to permies who complain about contract rates, that the choice is there for them too: go contracting yourself if you like, nobody's stopping you.

Likewise, you lot could have been civil servants, doctors, teachers (well some of you), local government workers, nobody stopped you from doing it. So don't now bitch about the rewards for those who do.
