    Oi! I dispute that.

Actually we should probably have a sweepstake on who will be top for the summer solstice. The sunburst poster so to speak.

    My money's actually on EO.

No - I think you'll find that DP being a strangely humourless ****** is at least part of the problem!

You on the other hand do at least exhibit some sense of humour. More bile, spite, hate and downright nastyness obviously but some humour!

The weight of the glider is directed downward, no horizontal force affects that. As there is no downward acceleration, all vertical forces balance. Draw all vertical forces and cancel pairs out, none should be left unpaired : weight, air, truck, Earth. This is Newton's Third Law.

A glider can maintain height by pushing air down, so there's no need to add any slight imbalanced forces due to losing height. Any accelerations would have to brief in any case, otherwise a glider would accelerate to earth.
the glider isn't pushing any air down

It is, but if you insist on having the glider be sucked up, the force diagram is exactly the same.

This is a very tedious thread.

ok, what I want to know.

when I was 20 -30, I was a solid muscle, six pack, hard as fkng nails, 300 press ups with one hand, and I sh@gged about 3 birds.

when I got to 45, baldy , beer belly, limp kn0b and a bad case of gout
i was beating the nymphs off with a sh1tty stick
i had to stop sh@gging in the end, because it started to hurt when I had a w@nk

As I understand it, you are both right. The bernoulli principle can be derived from newtons 2nd law + conservation of energy or something. And the air *is* deflected downwards, in both accounts.

Also the glider does fall to earth the same as any other plane when unpowered, it just does it gracefully, but that conversion of potential to kinetic energy is quite important as it is the power source essentially. Catching a thermal to ascend is effectively taking energy from the rising air and storing it as potential energy. A gravity battery if you like.

its being pushed up by atmospheric air pressure due to lower pressure above the wing

Just to clarify, were you beating off to women when you were 45, or 20 to 30?

You probably chilled out a bit, and got rich.
