If you are adopting that position, why does your business model (see earlier posts in this thread) revolve around the concept that it's better to earn £15 on a Saturday than £45 on any other day? -
If you still haven't understood it then I would have to resort to drawing pictures with a large crayon for you and I just don't have the time.Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostIf you are adopting that position, why does your business model (see earlier posts in this thread) revolve around the concept that it's better to earn £15 on a Saturday than £45 on any other day?

A general question - if you are quoting on your website £15 + VAT then shouldn't your website display your VAT number ?Comment

So if during the week someone pesters me to do something and I offer them them a cheaper alternative then they wait, feel like they've got a bargain and I don't have to drop everything at a moments notice to go running (this is not always possible).
Then those that keep on persisting that it must be done now pay full fare, and have no qualms in doing so. It works both ways.
Home users are the most pesky, and offer them a bargain if they wait a few days, and they wait. To be honest unless you have all your ducks in a row, and have all the tools in the drawer ready to rock then those 6 £15ers will take all weekend. If you're good then they are all knocked to the boundary in minutes.
The best seller is password unlocks. "I got this PC from work/carbooty/friend" and it's mine honest guv, can you just hack the admin password for me. £15 for 2 minutes work, nice.
Originally posted by suityou01 View PostThe ranking was somewhat carefully tuned so that I only get around 5 calls per week. Don't want to be too visible.
What Suity is claiming is, for example, if he gets a call on a Monday afternoon requesting urgent assistance that evening, if he already has plans for the evening, rather than schedule an appointment for his next free evening, at a rate of £50ph, he suggests the customer drop it off on Saturday morning when he charges £15ph.Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostIf you are adopting that position, why does your business model (see earlier posts in this thread) revolve around the concept that it's better to earn £15 on a Saturday than £45 on any other day?
In this way Suity says he gets half a dozen customers on a Saturday morning which brings in a total of £90 for the hour.
However, this suggests that most weekday evenings he is too busy to do IT Support work but, based on his posting history, he seems to spend most weekday evenings on CUK!
Seems strange that you would downsell your service during the week when the only possible day of the week it would make sense to do that would be on a Friday and only if you are fully booked.
However, Suitys inclusion of this smiley
suggests that this unique business model is bringing in streams of customers and, thus, he is minted.
And don't forget, this is all due to SEO which has been carefully crafted to ensure his services appear in the middle of page 5 of a Google search for IT Support in Luton

Do you know how much it costs to take the kids out these days? Family ticket to Marwell £56 (and that only does two kids). Plus petrol to get there, plus ice creams, plus tokens for their fairground rides, plus cuddly toy from the gift shop. Probably at least £150 all in.
So it makes good economic sense - "Sorry, we can't go to the zoo today - daddy's working." The £15 is a bonus.Comment

I said this before, but am not getting through.
If you quantify the job first, make sure it won't take too long, ie operating system installs are out of the question, ram upgrade is perfect, then each job only takes a few minutes.
6 jobs take around 1.5hrs.
6*£15 = 90, which is more than the £50 per hour you lot seem to think is reasonable.
That and I don't have to dot about all over the place like a blue arse fly. Customer drops PC off Friday night and collects Saturday lunch time.
Start at 8, and you're done by 10, plenty of time for the Zoo. And it's paid for.
Really really HTH, BIDI.
