Scary as it is, I write software used to train physicians. If you ever have a non-invasive heart operation, it's possible the doctor practised on something I developed. Could be and there's a precedent within the NHS. I dunno if it's still the same but in the 1980s hospital consultants were encouraged to do research out of NHS funds and still claim the IP themselves.
