When you are dehydrated you need some salt (a.k.a. electrolytes) and sugar / carbs in order for your body to absorb the water effectively. I find isotonic sports drinks work wonders.

You need some salts when you've been sweating a lot, but 20 minutes in the gym is not going to cause any significant depletion that won't be fixed by your next meal.

It's nothing to do with combating depletion. The presence of salts and sugar in a low concentration increase the rate at which fluid is absorbed in the gut. So an isotonic or slightly weaker (hypotonic) solution is absorbed faster than plain water, which will tend to just sit there and leave you feeling bloated.Originally posted by RichardCranium View PostThat's all just marketing bulltulip, I'm afraid.

The sugar will also help you feel better because the alcohol impairs the liver's ability to keep your blood sugar level up.
Depletion is only really a problem in a hot climate where 6-8 hours sat in a bar by the beach can lead to you loosing quite a lot of salt through sweating.Last edited by doodab; 6 February 2011, 19:27.While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. I fully sympathise. I'm gonna knock it on the head as well starting from last night.

Good luck.Originally posted by aussielong View PostEnough of my bleeting. I had a mother of all benders last night and ended up in the hospital this evening because I nearly collapsed. My BP has gone through the roof.
I've decided to pack it in. I'm no longer a drinker. I've got a bleeding problem and it's time to do something about it. Tomorrow is day 1.Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

Have you accepted you will not be able to sort yourself out without help yet?
I think you have an issue you have not addressed, the binge is your way of dealing with it.
I think it will be difficult trying to just stop, it is easier to replace one thing with something else, but that something else should be something that will help you with your problem. But first you need to find out what that problem is, or do you already know?
