Another binge

When you are dehydrated you need some salt (a.k.a. electrolytes) and sugar / carbs in order for your body to absorb the water effectively. I find isotonic sports drinks work wonders.

That's all just marketing bulltulip, I'm afraid.

You need some salts when you've been sweating a lot, but 20 minutes in the gym is not going to cause any significant depletion that won't be fixed by your next meal.

But the additives and sugar in the 'isotonic' drink will

Oh, why am I bothering? Believe what you want.

It's nothing to do with combating depletion. The presence of salts and sugar in a low concentration increase the rate at which fluid is absorbed in the gut. So an isotonic or slightly weaker (hypotonic) solution is absorbed faster than plain water, which will tend to just sit there and leave you feeling bloated.

The sugar will also help you feel better because the alcohol impairs the liver's ability to keep your blood sugar level up.

Depletion is only really a problem in a hot climate where 6-8 hours sat in a bar by the beach can lead to you loosing quite a lot of salt through sweating.

You may have overdone it. Time to knock it on the head. I had a similar issue last night. Started at 11.30am finished as midnight and was up in 2am - 5.30am in agony, heart palpitations and freaking hallucinations.

I fully sympathise. I'm gonna knock it on the head as well starting from last night.

Firstly : Worth at least an ECG, seriously.
Secondly : Cry for help understood. I will lay off and so will RC. This week coming, you fill yer boots ;)
Thirdly: ECG, seriously.
Fourthly: ECG.

It was all caused by something else and the alcohol. Going to cut down my intake don't want a heart attack thread.

Anyway I have no heart. :wink

Enough of my bleeting. I had a mother of all benders last night and ended up in the hospital this evening because I nearly collapsed. My BP has gone through the roof.

I've decided to pack it in. I'm no longer a drinker. I've got a bleeding problem and it's time to do something about it. Tomorrow is day 1.

Good luck.

Big night done, wont bore you wiht the details.

Have you accepted you will not be able to sort yourself out without help yet?
I think you have an issue you have not addressed, the binge is your way of dealing with it.

I think it will be difficult trying to just stop, it is easier to replace one thing with something else, but that something else should be something that will help you with your problem. But first you need to find out what that problem is, or do you already know?
