Thank you very much Mr P, I trust thee are well ?Originally posted by Pondlife View Post
Welcome back Sir.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Well I would argue that Churchills comments aren't anti-semitic a sweeping generalisation at worst.
There is no hatred or discrimination or any intent to drum this up, just an observation based on his experience.
It's no worse than SASs that there is not likely to be any intelligence from a squaddie and that is probably not even based on experience. But I discovered nothing else but depraved, excessive superstition. Pliny the youngerComment

You know, this Avatar thing with inter-alien romance isn't all it's cracked up to be. I mean, you can get over the biological hurdles with imagination, determination and lots of KY, BUT it's the mental side of things that really makes it awkward, y'know ?Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. But what do we call a sweeping generalisation that is derogatory towards Jews?Originally posted by Gibbon View PostWell I would argue that Churchills comments aren't anti-semitic a sweeping generalisation at worst.

I broadly agree about the hatred and discrimination, but I think it is about prejudice. There is certainly worse anti-semitism about, but nevertheless it is anti-semitism.Comment
