    Wine in hospital

Yesterday had a double inguinal hernia repair op. Was feeling a bit pukey after the surgery, so asked the nurse for something to help settle my stomach. She said "sure", and went over to a cupboard in the corner of the room and brought out a bottle of red wine. She saw my look of surprise, and told me it wasn't for me.

It was for one of the other patients in the ward. Apparently, depending on your medication and what you're being treated for, it's normal (in Switzerland) to have wine with your hospital food. I do like living in a civilized country.

Now - no humour please. It only hurts when I laugh.

Blimey! There is an outbreak of ill-health on here recently.

Get well soon NAT. I'm sure you can get someone to bring you some wine.

Speak for yourself. I manage to keep myself young by drinking the blood of young nubile virgins. Unluckily as this is England and I live in a council estate they are hard to come by.

Many a year ago they would 'prescribe' Guinness to expectant mums! Oh how time has changed.

I feel old when I see youths walking around in t-shirts at night when the temperature is around zero while I feel there is an uncomfortable breeze in the air, with my thermals, 2 layers + coat on. Not just one or two idiots either, whole packs of single layered party goers.

I vaguely remember having the same indifference to climatic conditions when experienced in a more youthful state. I thought my motorbike tester was going to fail me when he said I should dress more warmly. I think I was only wearing something like a shirt, in the dead of winter, and had no gloves.
