They've been around for quite a while - They're called notebooks.

Seriously, what does a kindle or reader give you that a notebook doesn't, except maybe it's marginally cheaper?

I mean it's not even as if you can use them in the bath (which admittedly would be a big plus).

And you can't fold the things up and slip them in your pocket - They're just as bulky and almost as heavy as notebooks, if not more so. Waste of time IMHO.

Lighter.

Much longer battery.

"ink" screens more readable in bright conditions (outside).

Amazon sells cheap digital books for those devices.

They are also cheap devices.

You can take a Kindle on holiday and won't need to recharge it, can read it outside in the sun, etc. The screen is very different to a laptop.
My Kindle is smaller and lighter than a paperback. And I read it in the bath (via a very low-tech method which appears quite satisfactory).

I'm not too convinced about colour e-readers. I mean we've been able to print in coloured ink quite some time but I can't remember a single novel that isn't black & white, since I stopped reading books with pictures.

I always thought the same, I dislike reading on a PC screen. But I find my Kindle remarkably easy to read and tend to forget I'm reading an e-book.

At the moment publishers still have the power, in many cases forcing Amazon's prices.

As for newspapers... aren't they going to to be pushed out by just going on the web anyway? You can get e-book versions already but TBH a B&W paper is just fine in my view.

It wasn't long ago that newspapers were black and white, apart from the odd page. The change to colour started in the mid 1980s in the UK according to the Wiki, with the majority of newspapers still mostly black and white today.
