thank you Sas,

I must admit, I'm a 'synopsis' man myself
Bunk,
thank you,

An IPAD doesn't fit in your pocket.Originally posted by milanbenes View PostI gotta say folks,
I don't really 'get' this e-reader Kindle crap stuff
What I don't get is...
why to buy some black and white e-reader crap, why not buy a IPAD and have everything and read pdf versions of books ?
where does the e-reader fit in ?
and from what I see they ain't cheap neither
it's kind of an oxymoron, in 2011, to read a headline that 'Kindle' is going to come out in colour - wow woopee doo
if I was in the market for something like that i'd get a IPAD.
Milan.

Santa (well Mrs sas) was kind enough to give me a Kindle this Christmas.
If you are a serious reader, its well worth it.
It fits in my coat breast pocket, one charge lasts for days, with the 3G version you can get a book instantly 365/24/7.
The display is great and easy on the eye.
The only disadvantages I have found:
1. Reading pdfs with 2 columns per page is not that great. You have to resize the screen, then scrolling across is a pain.
I haven't managed to find a comfortable way of doing this yet
2. Maths symbols don't format correctly sometimes. Not sure if this an instrinsic problem with the Kindle standard or simply a bad implementation in these particular cases.
But if you read "normal" books regularly, it's a must have.

I only really read when I am on holiday ( I just never have the time )
A kindle would lighten my bag load massively

I'm always surprised how quickly non-techy people are interested within moments of seeing the Kindle, about the way the screen looks. Typical response "ooh, it's like looking at a book!"

PDF and other formats that have been mentioned - and there are shedloads of free books, either out-of-copyright at Project Gutenberg and similar repositories, or newly-created such as this collection of shared knowledge from Stack Overflow's (Creative Commons licensed) content pool.Originally posted by OwlHoot View PostCan you download PDF files onto them, or are they restricted to chargeable/encrypted ebooks?

Not only PDF but .doc and even .docx, and they'll even convert to a more conveniently formatted Kindle doc - you email the file to your kindle and it happens by magic.

In which case I suppose the average CUKker is target market for colour e-readers

Whether you want colour in your newspaper depends upon whether you buy it for the news, or the pictures.
