Pleurisy

Thought this was some medieval disease that you invariably die from & nobody got it any more.

You can imagine that they scared the bejeezus out of me last night in hospital when they gave this as the explanation for why I've been immobilised with excruciating pains in my chest for the last 24 hours.

Apparently I'll be right as rain in a few days after a course of antibiotics

Seriously at least they found out what it was! I had severe chest pains a while back, they would come out of nowhere and build up over a duration of 30 minutes or so. I'd be in so much pain I would hit the floor.

I got tested so so many things (but probably not Pleurisy) and they didn't find out what was wrong. Even these days I can feel my chest give me light pains now and again, and my breathing is erratic at times.

How did they test and identify for Pleurisy?

It's nothing to do with smoking - I've been smoking since I was 12 and I've never had it.

I blame central heating, and especially air conditioning. We were better off with coal fires.

Especially when the coal had a good, high sulphur content. That used to kill of everything.

Examination, blood tests and chest x-ray
