Again, how predictable. Make up things I never said.

It's a good way for you to score some points though; arguing with yourself means you stand a chance

Do you believe that heaven and earth were made in 7 days?

If you say yes I will respect you.

        Christianity.

You use your religion as a bench mark in a fight.

Sounds like you have the same argument as your mother, you say you cant afford £43 per week because you have wife kids etc., she says she cant afford it. Are you actually saying you can't spare £6 a day to spare your own flesh and blood from the humiliation of a crap care home? Wow I would do anything for my family, even if it meant cutting some luxuries.

Top man Suity - really happy to hear that things seemed to have worked out for your grandfather. Mine is 95, so share your worries about making an old mans remaining time as happy as possible.

Also, hope that the money situation sorts itself out, but, like Mrs RH said, Age Concern combined with the superb home manager should get things sorted out for you.

              1. The guy has worked and paid tax all his life and he shouldn't have to rely on anyone else to pay for his care
              2. Nobody should have to live in a smelly, abusive home. Even the 'basic' ones should offer good care.

I agree, however in the real world the care system is imperfect and the main concern is the care of your loved ones. I would cough up the money and then take up these points with the authorities.

And that's what the SYs have done (and good on 'em). The discussion is important though because not everyone is lucky enough to have a nice family, and our priority should be to make sure the care homes up their game. It's our tax money and it should be used well.

In brief my mother had a PoA on behalf of her mother some years ago for quite some time. She used it in much the same way as her mother had, in that she gave a little money to me, siblings, herself, my father. These were just the regular amounts of gifts her mother had made throughout her entire life. (birthday, christmas etc)

When she went into a care home the local authority requested the funds back (actually disregarded from her remaining assets). We thought this was a bit much - there was no abuse and an easy evidential pattern - legal advice was sought and the advice we received was there was no chance of defeating the authority.

So, dob your mother into social services and see what happens....
You suggested what I was going to say.

You can't get rid of elderly relatives assets if they are needed to pay for care. This upsets a lot of children because the house their parents work for has to be used to pay for their care.
